Sandra Annette Bullock was born on July 26, 1964, in Arlington, Virginia, to Helga Mathilde Meyer, a German opera singer and voice teacher, and John Wilson Bullock, an American voice coach and Army employee. She spent much of her childhood in Nuremberg, Germany, and Vienna and Salzburg, Austria, where she grew up speaking German and attended a Waldorf school. At the age of 12, Bullock returned to the United States and attended Washington-Lee High School in Arlington, where she participated in cheerleading and school theater productions.
