    Doppler effect

The Doppler effect is the change in observed frequency or wavelength of a wave due to relative motion between source and observer. First proposed in 1842 by Austrian physicist Christian Doppler, it applies to sound, light, and other waves and underpins techniques in astronomy, radar, medical ultrasonography, and navigation.
